A.T. GARNETT — PRESIDENT AND CEO

Akia PhotoAkia Garnett has over 15 years experience as an entrepreneur, expert in marketing and communication, and business operations. She brings demonstrated, practical experience in designing and implementing proven approaches to solving the complex challenges facing public and private organizations. Her expertise spans business operations and includes communication, marketing, business development and sales. She has supported commercial, nonprofit and government sectors.

Akia is creator of the Continuous Improvement Process™ model, a communication building program for churches, working with clergy, executive and other ministerial staffs to design and install vision, mission and organizational objectives in order to maximize church resources based upon communication best practices. She presents on various marketing and communication topics such as Branding, What’s in it For Your Church, and Partnerships that Increase Visibility and Income. She serves as director of the Office of Communication and Public Information for The Virginia Baptist State Convention, Inc.

Akia has developed and implemented communication programs for several organizations including several minority owned firms, small businesses and nonprofit companies. She has held such positions as marketing coordinator for The Smithsonian Associates, Smithsonian Institution, Minority Business Enterprise representative and marketing manager for Integrated Systems Analysts, Inc; Marketing Chair of the Virginia Business Opportunity Fair; Sr. Marketing Manager and Director of Operations and Business Development for ICMA Consulting Services, a division of the International City/ County Management Association.

Akia is an adjunct professor of marketing & consumer behavior and business at Trinity University of Washington, DC and is co-author of Seen and Sustained: Best Practices in Communication that Increase Visibility and Income of the Local Church. She received a bachelor of Communication from Marymount University of Arlington, Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Trinity University’s School of Professional Studies. Also, she is Vice President of the Bethany Christian Services Board of Directors in the Fairfax region of Northern Virginia.

Akia is a graduate of the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center’s Leading Educating and Developing, (LEAD) a 1-week intensive program which complements the Senior Executive Institute (SEI) by duplicating the core learning experience for the level of department heads, division heads and senior staff of government organizations. She has completed the USDA Graduate School’s Project Management Professional Fast Track Comprehensive Five Day Seminar which aligns with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) Guide, and has received numerous acknowledgements and other performance related awards throughout her career.
